These “What we’ve been up to” posts will be posted monthly, and give a brief insight into what each of the different teams at The Games Hub is currently working on.
This month, we’re catching up with Nysko Games on their current game The Dwarves of Glistenveld.
What's the game?
The Dwarves of Glistenveld is an isometric 2.5D RTS that features sandbox and RPG elements.
In this game, players take control of one of five dwarf clans in order to try to reclaim the city of Glistenborg from the goblins, the game’s main antagonists who drove the dwarves out of their homes and forced them underground. It is up to the player to collect resources, construct new units and buildings, and to research new technologies in the fight against the goblin threat. At the same time, players can also dig their own tunnels. This offers players a tactical advantage while they explore each map and discover new paths that may lead them to the goblin bases that are scattered around the land.
The game also has a sandbox mode where players can create an endless supply of procedurally generated maps. The game is built to be easily modded so that players can build custom maps, scenarios, UI, monsters, buildings, and more.
There will also be a multiplayer mode in which players can work together to fight the goblins.
What's happening now?
Having released their first alpha demo at the end of April, Nysko have just been working on the feedback they’ve received in that time.
Having received word of a few crashes, they decided to work on a quick patch to try and fix the issues. Having found the culprit (and have given them a good disciplining), they’ve also built in an agent to detect and throttle any mischievous code that does not work as it is intended.
They’re now working towards a second alpha build that will include a brief campaign mode, voice-overs and a reworked UI Interface.
The team are also excited to present the demo at the Rapture Gaming Festival this weekend – if you’re in Colchester for the festival, come by and take a look!
